Is Meterline a legally certified taxi meter?
No. Meterline is a fare-calculation and trip-tracking tool, not a sealed, government-calibrated "legal-for-trade" taximeter. In some regions, charging passengers requires a certified, inspected meter. You are responsible for complying with the taxi and metrology regulations that apply where you operate. Many drivers use Meterline for private hire, estimates, personal mileage and earnings tracking, or where a certified meter is not required.
How accurate is the fare?
Meterline meters distance and time through a filtered GPS pipeline that rejects parked drift, enforces a speed floor, and handles signal loss without ever inventing distance. The fare engine is unit-tested and handles money as whole cents with a single, consistent order of operations — so the total is precise and repeatable. Real-world GPS accuracy still depends on your device and surroundings (tunnels, dense cities, etc.).
Do I need any special hardware?
No. Meterline runs entirely on your iPhone using its built-in GPS — there's no meter box, dongle, or installation. Just open the app and start a trip.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Metering is fully on-device, so a trip runs and saves without any internet connection. When you're back online, your trips and settings sync to your private account so they're safe and available on a new device.
How do the 20 free rides work?
Every account includes 20 completed rides at no cost — no separate trial sign-up. After your 20th ride, Meterline Pro is required to keep metering. The allowance is tied to your account, so reinstalling won't reset it.
How much is Meterline Pro, and what does it unlock?
Pro is $20 per year or $5 per month. It unlocks unlimited metered rides plus the full experience: the complete rate editor, earnings dashboard and receipts, Live Activity and background metering, fleet tools, and private encrypted cloud backup across devices.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Meterline Pro is billed through the App Store, so you manage or cancel it from your Apple subscriptions: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Meterline on your iPhone. Your Pro access continues until the end of the current billing period.
Can I set my own rates and tariffs?
Yes — that's the point. Create as many rate profiles as you like, each with a meter-start charge, per-distance and per-time rates, day/night and zone windows, peak multipliers, fixed and percentage surcharges, minimum fares, and fixed zone prices. Set your currency, distance unit, and rounding to match your city.
Does the meter keep running in the background?
Yes. With background location enabled, the fare keeps accruing when your screen is off or you switch apps, and the running fare and time stay visible on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island via a Live Activity.
How does Fleet work, and is my location shared?
A fleet owner can invite drivers by email. If you accept and opt in, your live location is shared with that fleet owner only while you're actively metering a trip, so they can see on-trip drivers on a map and review trip stats. Sharing is consent-based and you can turn it off at any time in the Fleet tab. If you don't join a fleet, nothing is shared.
Is my data private?
Metering happens on your device. Your trips, rates, and earnings sync only to your own private account to back them up and move them between devices. We don't sell your data, show ads, or use your data to track you across other apps. See our privacy policy for the full picture.
How do I delete my account?
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from inside the app — in your account settings, choose Delete account. This removes your profile, trips, and rate data and cannot be undone.
What languages and devices are supported?
Meterline is available in 10 languages, including full right-to-left support for Arabic. It's built for iPhone; Live Activity and Dynamic Island features need a recent iOS version and a supported device.
