This Privacy Policy explains how Meterline ("Meterline", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Meterline mobile app and this website. We built Meterline to be private by default: metering happens on your device, and we don't sell your data, show you ads, or use your data to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Information we collect
We collect only what's needed to run the app and your account. All of the following is linked to your account and used for app functionality — not for tracking or advertising.
Account information
When you create an account we collect your name and email address. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive basic identifiers from that sign-in. We use email for account verification, password reset, important service messages, and fleet invitations — all transactional, never marketing.
Location data
To meter trips, Meterline uses your device's precise location while a trip is running, including in the background if you enable it, so the fare keeps accruing with your screen off. Location is processed on your device to compute distance, time, and the route for your receipt. Routes you save are stored with your trips in your account.
Trip and earnings data
We store the trips you complete and the rate profiles you create — distances, durations, fares, and earnings totals. This is your business data; we store it so it's backed up and available across your devices.
Profile photo
If you choose to set a profile picture, the photo you select is uploaded to your account. We only access the specific image you pick.
Identifiers
Your account has a unique user ID used to associate your data with you.
Purchases
If you subscribe to Meterline Pro, our payments provider records your purchase and subscription status so we can unlock Pro features. Apple processes the actual payment — we never receive or store your card or payment details.
How we use your information
- To provide the core service: metering trips, building receipts, and showing your earnings.
- To create and secure your account and authenticate you.
- To back up and sync your trips, rates, and settings across your devices.
- To process and validate your Meterline Pro subscription.
- To send transactional emails (verification, password reset, fleet invites, and important service notices).
- To provide fleet features when you choose to use them (see below).
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Fleet location sharing
If you join a fleet, your live location and trip information (current fare, distance, and trip stats) are shared with your fleet owner — a third party — only while you are actively metering a trip.
Fleet sharing is entirely optional and consent-based. You explicitly opt in when you accept a fleet invitation, and you can turn live sharing off at any time in the app's Fleet tab. A fleet owner can see their drivers' on-trip location on a map and review per-driver trips and earnings; they have read-only visibility and cannot change your data. If you don't join a fleet, none of your information is shared with anyone else.
Who we share data with
We don't sell your data. We share it only with service providers that help us run Meterline, and only as needed:
- Cloud backend (Supabase): securely stores your account, trips, rates, and settings.
- Apple & Google: if you choose to sign in with them.
- Maps & geocoding (Apple Maps / map providers): to display routes and place names. Map-provider attribution is shown where required.
- Subscriptions (RevenueCat) & Apple: to process and validate your Pro subscription.
- Fleet owners: as described in the Fleet section, only if you opt in.
- Legal: if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data directly in the app — open your account settings and choose "Delete account." This removes your profile, trips, and rate data and cannot be undone. You can also email us to request deletion.
Your rights & choices
- Access & portability: your trips and earnings are visible in the app at any time.
- Deletion: delete your account in-app, or contact us.
- Location: you control location access in your device Settings; turning it off stops metering.
- Fleet sharing: opt out anytime in the Fleet tab.
- Depending on where you live (e.g., the EEA, UK, or California), you may have additional rights to access, correct, or restrict processing of your data. Contact us to exercise them.
Security
Your data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored with access controls so that each account can only reach its own data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
Meterline is intended for working drivers and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll remove it.
International users
Meterline may process and store your information on servers located in other countries. By using the app you consent to this transfer, subject to appropriate safeguards.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
